It was with a mixture of delight and disappointment that I stumbled across the pictures of this automotive showroom and leisure complex for GB Auto in Cairo, designed by Parisian architect Manuelle Gautrand.

It’s one of the most exiting interiors I’ve seen in a while, but unfortunately these stunning pictures are only renderings: the project is still in the planning stages, so it’ll be a while until we get to cover it properly in FX.

The proposal is for a mixed-use building with showrooms dedicated to various car brands, several cafes, a food court, a media park and two cinemas. The project builds on Gautrand’s notable success with the Citroën Flagship showroom on the Champs-Elysées in Paris.

Built mostly of concrete, and juxtaposing large expanses of white with Egyptian motifs, the interior will form a series of sculptural alcoves and vistas – a really innovative way to show off the cars.

I’m dying to see the finished scheme, but unfortunately we’ll have to be patient till it opens next year.
