Britain’s got talent. Much as I think of design as an international concept, the UK has some terrific creative ideas.

If you get a chance to see the elegant reflective Serpentine summer pavilion in London it will lift your spirits. I wondered around on a damp early morning and it still looked beautiful with its reflective canopies. That Julia Peyton-Jones, director of the Serpentine gallery has kick started this tradition of showcasing International architects to the British public, and every year raises all the funding to build a temporary summer “folly” is something to be proud of. Meanwhile, close by and also in Hyde Park, is the new powerful memorial to the London bombings. One of the most moving monuments I have seen. On my way back to the office I walked through Trafalgar Square where the artist Anthony Gormley’s concept for the 4th plinth, was occupied for an hour by someone standing under an umbrella …
