Open source Amazon mashup integration, with a bit of cloud computing for good measure
July 24, 2008

A while back I posted a cheeky blog asking the question, “Which open source data integration firm will announce on Monday that its technology has been optimized to run on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2)?”

I had promised to reveal the answer the following Monday, but events conspired against me. The company in question postponed their announcement, then my magazine moved offices, et cetera, et cetera .. [click continue reading for more on this announcement]

Anyway I can (no longer exclusively, I confess) reveal it’s a firm I wrote about a while back, the open source integration maestros, SnapLogic.

A new version of the SnapLogic open source data integration framework has been optimized to run on the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2). SnapLogic enables enterprises to integrate data on both sides of the enterprise firewall, the firm said, and to create enterprise mashups and rich Internet Applications (RIAs).

“SnapLogic for Amazon EC2 provides Amazon Web Services (AWS) users with a convenient SnapLogic deployment option that scales easily and eliminates the costs of acquiring and maintaining expensive server hardware,” SnapLogic said. “SnapLogic for Amazon EC2 also makes it easier than ever to integrate SaaS application data, such as Salesforce.com.”

The announcement caused one of the firm’s bloggers, Chris, to feel “happy”. “Just like that, we’re a Cloud Computing Company,” he joked. “But seriously, this is a natural step for us. From the ground up, SnapLogic was built with the web in mind so making it available for use on Amazon’s Web Services (AWS) was a natural choice.”
