Open source security firm Sourcefire named John C. Burris its new CEO, effective July 14...
Burris joined Sourcefire's board in March. He is currently head of worldwide sales and services at thin server maven Citrix Systems.
Sourcefire CEO Wayne Jackson said in February that he would step down, with the company saying he was leaving to pursue other opportunities.
In a statement, Sourcefire Chairman Joseph Chinnici said Burris' selection is, "The culmination of a thoughtful and disciplined process of succession planning."
Burris, 53, has worked for Citrix since 1999. As head of worldwide sales and services, he is said to have helped grow annual revenue from $470m to $1.4bn. Before joining Citrix, Burris worked for Lucent and AT&T.
Sourcefire was recently the subject of an unsolicited takeover offer from Barracuda, an offer it rejected as undervaluing the firm. I wrote a blog after an interview with Sourcefire founder Marty Roesch here, for those who missed it.
