The eagle-eyed amongst you may have noticed that I referred earlier to Janine Milne as CBR’s new deputy editor.
That’s because today is my last day at CBR/ComputerWire as I’m moving on to the role of enterprise software analyst at The 451 Group. I will be working alongside Raven Zachary and Jay Lyman covering Linux and open source and will be blogging at 451 CAOS Theory.
In the meantime, Janine has taken over from me as deputy editor on CBR and will be picking up some of the open source coverage.
I say some, because the coverage of open source on CBRonline has increased dramatically since I started this blog in January 2006.
You only have to look at recent stories from my soon-to-be-former colleagues Madan Sheina, Jason Stamper, Angela Eager, Tony Baer, Rik Turner, Rhonda Ascierto, Kevin Murphy, Tim Stammers, and Tim Prickett Morgan to see that.
The main reason for that is the rapid maturity of the vendors themselves. Whereas 18 months ago they were flying under the enterprise radar, now when the likes of SugarCRM, JasperSoft or Alfresco make an announcement, it is big news.
You’ll be able to continue to follow CBR’s excellent open source coverage here on the blog and via the Open Source Analysis Centre.
As for myself, I’ve really enjoyed my time at CBR but all good things come to an end, and I’m very much looking forward to the new role.
I’ve got a couple of weeks holiday to take and will be starting in early October, so be sure to add CAOS Theory to your subscription list if you haven’t got it on there already and do the same for Open Source Weblog for the latest open source news and opinion from CBR.
In the meantime, I’m off to the pub. In the words of Elvis: hang loose everybody.
