How long will Marc Fleury stay retired?
April 24, 2007

Ahead of Red Hat's announcement of its strategy for JBoss I just stumbled across the blog of JBoss's founder and former CEO, Marc Fleury.

While Fleury officially retired in February after leaving Red Hat to pursue other interests, his latest blog entries suggest he is finding it hard to give up on the industry altogether.

Where there were previously postings regarding the Playstation 3, evolution vs "intelligent design", DJing, and Apple, recent posts have seen him straying back towards open source software with postings about community do's and don'ts, Red Hat's investment in JBoss, Linux on the desktop, the Red Hat/Exadel deal, and Unbreakable Linux amongst other things.

Fleury even admits to having woken up in the early hours after being tipped off about some (not so) big news regarding JBoss:

“I fell out of bed at 4:35 AM because of a dream where I was reading news relating to JBoss. I mean, CAN'T I GET A BREAK? I am retired for gadsakes! I am not supposed to dream and wake up about these things. Talk about post traumatic stress disorder!”
he writes.

Which leads me to suggest that perhaps it won't be that long before Fleury is back in the software industry in one way or another. How long it will be remains to be seen. In dismissing a rumor that he is going to work for Sun he notes that he has a non-compete agreement that would prevent him taking such a job even if it had been offered to him.

“Ok here is one thing SUNW should do: buy Red Hat. Preferably at a premium and in time for my earnout. I will even give free integration advice,” he adds.
