SpikeSource also moves to Ubuntu
February 12, 2007

Following on from Canonical's agreement with Linspire comes the news that the Ubuntu sponsor has teamed up with SpikeSource in a deal that will eventually see SpikeSource integrating Ubuntu into its software stacks.

According to the deal SpikeSource is to certify its open source software offerings on the Ubuntu distribution, but will eventually fully integrate the operating system into its SpikeIgnited stacks.

SpikeSource is also to become a reseller of Canonical's Global Support Services for Ubuntu, and will eventually fully integrate Ubuntu into the SpikeIgnited stack.

The deal represents something of a change of strategy for SpikeSource, which up until now has offered its SpikeStacks to run on Red Hat Enterprise Linux or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

It also marks the increasing business focus of Ubuntu sponsor Canonical, which just last week announced a deal via with Ubuntu will become the basis for Linspire's desktop Linux operating system.
