Digium lands VC funding - as expected
August 09, 2006

At the Open Source Business Conference back in June Robin Vasan, managing director of Mayfield Fund, predicted that Asterix PBX developer Digium would be the next open source vendor to land VC funding. He was right: Digium just raised $13.8m.

The $13.8m has been provided by Matrix Partners, which was one of the major backers of open source Java middleware firm JBoss ahead of its recent acquisition by Red Hat. According to CBR's figures it is the largest Series A funding for an open source software vendor.

The funding follows $5m invested in Digium partner Fonality in January by Azure Capital Partners. Fonality offers IP-PBX systems built on top of Asterisk.
